Sydne Spencer

I was raised in Huntsville by a professional artist and received much of my art training at UAH. I have been an artist and painter since I was old enough to hold a brush, and although I can and do use oils and watercolors, acrylic is my paint of choice. In 2013 I discovered very high quality scratchboard material made by Ampersand and when I tried it, I became addicted to scratchboard and have since worked in that medium exclusively. Many hours of work go into each scratchboard before it is considered finished. Sometimes colored inks or acrylic paints are applied over the scratchwork, often the colored layer is also scratched to build depth into the composition. It is a very satisfying form of art for me and a great outlet for my creativity. I consider my work neo-photorealism.
